A Cheaper Phone Choice

A Cheaper Phone Choice - Letter - NYTimes.com: "If you are a truly global traveler, the simplest solution by far is to buy a cheap, unlocked SIM-ready phone ($50 or less) and buy SIM cards in each country you travel to. SIMs generally cost $5 or less. With a local number you can very cheaply call hotels, restaurants, etc., in that country to book a spot, and you can call or text home much more cheaply than you can while roaming on your home-based plan."
